Autumnal Palettes27 October 2020
A Warm Welcome
Step in from the cold and discover our warming palette of autumn hues…
As much as we all love the spring and summer months when the days are longer and lighter, there’s something really exciting about embracing the onset of autumn. Maybe it’s because we know we’ll be spending a lot more time indoors; perhaps it’s the idea of creating a warm, cosy environment in which to spend time with our loved ones or it could be due to the seasonal changes outside, as leaves turn into rich, rustic reds, browns and yellows. Taking our cue from nature, here at Artisans of Devizes we love to embrace these gorgeously warm shades that can enhance any interior space, and not just during the autumn/winter season. These evocative tones will bring instant character to your project all year round and can be complemented easily with accent pieces, furniture and soft furnishings.
To enhance a natural feeling inside the home, there are plenty of materials that are perfectly suited to creating the ultimate autumn retreat. Limestone in particular is great for adding a country look to kitchens and hallways, especially our Vieux Bourgogne limestone in Artisan Ancient™ Finish, which works wonderfully with painted timber cabinets and farmhouse kitchens that are ripe for large format flagstones throughout.
We also suggest our Buscot limestone in a seasoned finish as a hardwearing flooring solution for high traffic areas such as kitchens and hallways. Its cloudy colouring and inky tones make it perfect for contemporary schemes as well as more classic surroundings. For something more rural-looking, our Albury limestone in a tumbled or satino finish blends pebble, black, grey and off-white tones to complement furniture and furnishings in leafy red, amber and golden shades. For a more time-worn look ideal for period properties, take a look at our Trusloe limestone in a smart seasoned finish.
Bringing the autumnal colours of the great outdoors into your interior project this season also embraces another current aesthetic trend, cottagecore. This celebration of a return to traditional skills and crafts such as baking, pottery and foraging translates in design terms into a warm comfort blanket that wraps itself around your home. Terracotta is perfect for recreating this look and with on-trend brick, picket and parquet shaped tiles, you can unite the cosiness of cottagecore with a contemporary feel that’s all about seasonal shades. For something with added character and charm, our Antique Burgundy Terracotta is a 100-year-old French reclaimed tile that instantly evokes a sense of heritage and history and is perfect for kitchens, walk-in pantries, utility areas and boot rooms.
For projects that require more of a wood effect underfoot, take a look at our stunning wood-look porcelain collections, in particular our Franklin, Oxford and Sussex designs. Part of our brand new House range of porcelain tiles, these designs emulate the look and feel of natural timbers such as oak, walnut, ash and tobacco and they can be laid in on-trend herringbone, basketweave and parquet patterns for a high-spec look for less.
To complement your flooring selection, here at Artisans of Devizes we also have the perfect wallcoverings to match. Continuing the theme of rich autumnal palettes, our decorative British Kilns ceramics come in plenty of dramatically dark shades. With tailored colours suitable for both modern and traditional interiors, brick and scallop shaped tiles offer a crackle glaze finish for a rustic feel. Names such as Hebrides, Autumn Fall, Babbling Brook, Blustery Day, Forest Glade and Morning Mist evoke a sense of the great outdoors, a longing for romping over valleys and hills wrapped up warm against the elements before stopping off for a well-deserved cuppa.
For nature’s greenery, look to our Seaton collection of decorative porcelain and ceramic in Sage and Sea Grass and create a contrasting feature area or splashback in kitchens and bathrooms.
