Project Showcase: A Place to Entertain

The Project

With experience in designing everything from a Scottish cottage spa to a privately owned hotel in Antigua, Siân Parry Jones rose to the challenge of creating an indoor-outdoor living space for this Somerset property.

The house lies just outside Bishops Lydeard, a village under the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Taunton. “It was originally a cottage but has been completely remodelled,” says Siân. “The style is one of contemporary rustic chic and the owner wanted indoor-outdoor living with an open-plan living area and a large space for entertaining. He also wanted a swimming pool with an outdoor dining and barbecue area to entertain, as well as to be able to open up the bi-fold doors and have two areas to enjoy in the summer.”

The seamless finish between indoors and out was created by choosing our Wychwood limestone in an etched finish for the terrace outside the kitchen, the paving, pool surround and other landscaping. A stone that can be used both inside and outside the home, this stone is naturally hardwearing and durable with a beautiful colour and tone enhancing its classic character.

“The homeowner loved the look of the Artisans stone selected on a previous project,” adds Siân, “and it runs through from the outside dining area to the top end of the pool. It’s the perfect choice for our British weather. The sofas and dining area near the bi-fold doors enhance the light inside when open. When the sun streams in, it creates a lovely airy space.”
