Meet The Team : Ionela Macovei19 July 2021
Experts in the field since 1989, Artisans of Devizes has grown over the last 30 years to become one of the UK’s leading stone and tile companies. Whilst our collections and designs are always evolving, the business itself remains true to its core values of quality, craftsmanship, integrity and collaboration.
As part of our meet the team series, we have previously introduced you to our Showroom Managers, Tim Pittock & Chris Elliott, as well as Project Consultant, Kevin Lamming too, so we’re taking you behind the scenes even further to meet Ionela Macovei, our Bespoke Projects Coordinator, to learn a little more about her and what makes her role so special.
Name & location: Ionela Macovei, Devizes head office.
Can you tell us a bit about your role at Artisans of Devizes? I work within the bespoke team at Artisans, essentially organising everything bespoke related going in and out of our workshop and yard. I make sure all orders are processed, confirming all technical details prior to manufacture, as well as schedule all bespoke jobs into production, and ensuring completion by the deadline agreed. As well as this, I ensure stock of special order material is on site ready for manufacture, manage our natural stone slab stock, and liaise with our portfolio of installers and templators.
How long have you worked with Artisans of Devizes? I have worked at Artisans of Devizes for 4 years now.
What was your role before coming to Artisans of Devizes? I have worked in project management and coordination for the last 11 years in different areas. The latest areas would be cinema fit out, an installation project at MOD South Downs college and an energy efficiency scheme in Bristol, here I was coordinating multiple installations teams.
What do you enjoy most about working with Artisans of Devizes? I really enjoy the fact that Artisans of Devizes has a family business culture – it really promotes teamwork.
What are your top three favourite Artisans of Devizes products and why? First off would be our Vieux Bourgogne in Antiqued Finish because our team puts a lot of love into producing this amazing finish on the French stone. Then it would have to be our Rain Forest Green Marble and Amazonite. Both are incredible examples of art produced by nature. You just want to put it in a frame and look at it every day.
What’s been your favourite project you’ve worked on and why? I worked on a project where we provided natural stone products for the entire property – from bathrooms and kitchens to the pool house. Each room had a story to tell which was reflected in the design and stone chosen. For example, the master bathroom had the floor, bath panels, wall above bath and walls inside the shower all book matched to help create that effortless flow. The children chose what they liked for their individual bathrooms, and it was amazing to see how they expressed themselves through the stone they had picked. A very big project which was equally very well organised and well managed by the entire team. One of our many success stories.
What’s your top piece of advice you give to a client who is interested in our stone and tiles? Go with your instinct and do not overthink it. First impression is often the right one.
What are your interests outside of work? My interests include speleology, architecture, landscaping and antique furniture.
