Over on Instagram – Easter inspiration

1 April 2021

Easter’s officially in sight which means in a few days’ from now, lots of us will be busy preparing our gardens for the first guests we’ve been allowed to have over for what feels like an eternity. In the run-up to the long weekend, we’ve pulled together a handful of inspirational Instagram accounts to look to help you plan all sorts of Easter activities, from crafting to table scaping. We’ll certainly be trying our hand at egg-blowing and painting on Good Friday in the hope they can hang from tree branches in the garden before the supposed snow arrives next week – there’s nothing like a classic British springtime after all!

For Easter table ideas

Laying the table isn’t just about making sure everyone’s got cutlery and crockery to hand. With time on your side, it can be a creative act of ceremony that’s fun to assemble and elevates a meal to special occasion status.

There’s no better time to do just this in spring than Easter – lots of people see it as the follow-up event to Christmas for getting decorations out and centrepieces at the ready.

If cute and country is your thing, take a look at @the_old_school_house. Not only is this an addictive home renovation account to follow, but Pollyanna loves nothing more than doing table-lays. Scroll down to her garden-based ones for table setting inspiration – clusters of hydrangea heads on each plate and charming sage green and blush pink table palettes feel more than fitting for spring. And for more of a similar ilk, a favourite amongst the Artisans of Devizes team is @birdiefortescue – her garden table complete with floppy pink tulips and scalloped tableware is exactly how we’d like our Easter table to look.

For Easter eats

Even if you’re not an avid watcher of The Great British Bake Off, you can still enjoy what some of its alumni have gone on to achieve in their new lives as established cooks and bakers. Like @marthacollison whose seasonal bakes are always easy to follow and light-hearted in spirit. She recently posted a series of egg-related recipes for Easter that’ll take you through from starter to pudding if you’re serving up a three-course meal – though we’ll be skipping straight through to her lemon and orange curd meringue roulade.

For something small and sweet. take a look at @thehungryapron whose egg-shaped and icing sugar-dusted biscuits are not too tricky to whip up and will break up the constant flow of Easter eggs being munched through. Another one for the citrus curd lovers, its yolk is homemade lemon curd – why not make a bigger batch and pop it in a jar to spread onto scones and pancakes in the weeks to come?

For Easter crafts

If you’re searching for ideas that will keep children entertained over Easter or if you’re happy creating at the kitchen table all for yourself, @nancy_straughan’s cutesy painted Easter eggs will be absolutely inspiring our own designs – though we doubt they’ll come out looking quite as artistic! @rosaliegwenpaperie is another must-look account. A fine artist and watercolourist, her hand-painted eggshells are beautiful enough to store away and bring out Easter after Easter.

And finally, for general Easter ideas and styling from wreaths to floral displays and fun ways with napkins, a scour through @the_suffolk_nest is always worth a gander. She even has an Easter highlight to group stories she’s posted in the past in one place. Especially useful is her Easter Wreath Kit Tutorial IGTV that’ll guide you through what blooms work best upon your front door.

Happy Easter to one and all!
