Porcelain Round-Up

15 February 2021

We have chosen a few of our favourite interior porcelain projects, featuring everything from large entrance hallways to Shaker-style kitchen floors and luxurious open-plan schemes.

Warm welcome

When it came to updating and modernising a traditional old farmhouse, for the owner of this country retreat it was all about combining practical needs with an aesthetic look that was just right. The homeowner was intent on having a natural York stone to begin with, but upon seeing Artisans’ Nimes Porcelain Cenere in a London showroom, the decision was made. The idea was to have a warm, welcoming entrance hall that would be easy to maintain and keep clean and with its alluring grey and blue tones, these time-worn porcelain tiles were the perfect choice. Offering clients an authentic reproduction of ancient stone, the porcelain surface replicates slight undulations that can usually only be acquired over time. The large format slabs were laid in a random effect and are the perfect complement to the painted wooden wall panelling and antique furniture, giving this classic space a contemporary twist.

Shaker style

Seriously chic kitchens demand flooring to match and so it was that in this rich blue Shaker design, the optimum choice underfoot was Artisans of Devizes’ Natura Porcelain Grigio, which is available in three colours and one large format size. With a similar look and feel to limestone, the porcelain is a much more robust choice for high traffic areas such as the kitchen and it can also help bring warmth as well as a feeling of light and space into any room. The inviting tones of blue, brown and grey are the perfect complement to the painted wooden cabinetry while their generously sized flagstone design helps to elongate the room, adding an even greater feeling of space. The kitchen is beautifully finished with bespoke Artisans’ marble on the walls and worktops, providing practical splashbacks and food prep areas with a luxurious look.

Open house

Covering the entire ground floor of this stunning property, Louvre Blanc Porcelain from Artisans of Devizes creates instant wow factor with a spacious, seamless look. This matt finish, large format tile is the ideal choice for those wanting a uniform effect throughout a ground floor interior and is perfect for open-plan projects. The cloudy palette offers a similar effect to natural stone while bringing with it the low-maintenance benefits of a man-made stone, as porcelain is durable, hardwearing and easy to clean. It’s also a high-spec solution with a more affordable price, making it suitable for complete interior design projects in both classic and contemporary applications. The entrance hall shown here is minimal and spacious with a seamless effect that draws visitors in. Combining different zones for kitchen, dining, entertaining and relaxing, the uninterrupted finish also creates a warm, tactile look ideal for underfloor heating.

Classic character

A spectacular family kitchen full of fun and personality, this scheme is anchored beautifully by Artisan of Devizes’ Riverside Porcelain Gris underfoot. The large format stone-effect tile has a similar look and feel to limestone with its subtle veined detail and it was the perfect choice for a smooth, seamless open-plan design. The warm brown and grey tones are an ideal complement to the white painted in-frame kitchen cabinetry and by adding pops of vibrant colour with their dining chairs, pendant lights, artwork and accessories, the homeowners have really brought this room to life. Another aspect of this porcelain that ensures it works for all rooms is that it brings light and a feeling of space, as demonstrated in this kitchen-dining extension with its rooflights that let in additional natural light. Natural timber accents also help to soften the look, bringing richness and warmth into the room.

French influence

In this spacious kitchen design, the painted in-frame timber cabinetry is beautifully complemented by Artisans of Devizes’ Montpellier Porcelain Grigio floor tile. A low-maintenance and more affordable alternative to the famous French Barr limestone, this stone-effect solution is available in a classic flagstone format with varied pattern for an authentic reclaimed look. Ideal for large areas, it is sleek and seamless as well as being easy to clean. It also looks spectacular in the entrance hall of a country cottage or barn conversion complete with characterful oak timber front door and staircase.
