Better to be bespoke
A traditional building flourishing in modern life.
A London-based client and designer commissioned Artisans of Devizes to install a wide range of bespoke limestone and marble stone works that respect the traditions of an old barn while allowing it to flourish as a modern living space.
Technical challenges included: a precisely cut internal circle in stone for the wine cellar; honed skirting detailed with shadowed grooves; bespoke stone shower base; freestanding basin tops; French-style, weathered marble trough basin mounted on sculptured supports; bespoke wall-cladding and lining of niches; limestone cobbles, laid to a central gully.
The antique flagstone effect was enhanced by laying the stone in random length courses in the hallways, while a more regular 60 x 60 format for the kitchen and pantry complemented the bespoke equipment and fittings.
