Townhouse Transformation3 July 2020
We sat down with Garry Meakins to discuss the renovation of this Cotswold family home. When you look inside today you are graced with a beautifully tranquil, characterful home but that wasn’t always the case. When the homeowners started working with Garry, who has worked in the industry for more than fifteen years and now has his own studio – Garry Meakins Studio, the townhouse was a confused build, that had been re-modelled over a two hundred year period and didn’t work as the new family had imagined. “By the early 18th century this house had become a prominent village pub, remaining so until the 1950’s. The current homeowners wanted to acknowledge and respect its history – and they also wanted to create a home appropriate for a busy, modern family” says Garry.
“When it came to specifying stone and tiles for this project, I decided to work with Artisans of Devizes, the breadth of offer makes it very easy to work with Artisans as a designer” says Garry, who has specified our stone throughout the home. “I know that when I use Artisans, the product will perform. I can also rely on the team to answer any technical questions or queries I have”.
The kitchen is the center of this family home, with luxe leather bar stools and a calming colour palette throughout. “We decided on your Buscot Limestone because we find it is a real crowd pleaser, it’s easy to work with, is incredibly versatile and once laid looks like it has been there for years. I wanted to establish a link between the rooms so we ran this limestone into the dining area too and complemented it in smaller spaces with the cobble format”.
Heading into the master bathroom, our Domus Marble helps to create what Garry describes as a tailored feel. “The room was an unusual space” says Garry, “we reconfigured it and to give it some structure I created a grid format with the tiles”. The bathroom is warm and welcoming and in tune with the colour palette that runs through the rest of the home.
“We finished the project on time and the homeowners are thrilled with the transformation. Our end goal is always to deliver a project that makes the client happy, for us it’s about meeting the brief and challenging it and I certainly believe we have achieved that in this home”.
