Project Showcase: Mayfair Heights

Project Showcase: Mayfair Heights

PROJECT BY HUGHES GROUP & RIGBY & RIGBY

The Project

The elegant traditional façade of this 19th century building in London’s Mayfair belies the completely modernised interior. Four apartments inside were fully refurbished by The Hughes Group. Sumptuous finishes were a prerequisite to do justice to the property’s prestigious surroundings.

Creating a statement entrance lobby was crucial to setting the tone for the rest of the building. As well as being beautiful, the flooring needed to be functional and extremely hardwearing to cater for lots of people coming in and out in all weathers. A luxurious stone was chosen - Mayfair Marble. The mid grey shade is extremely practical, especially with its honed finish, and the distinctive veining creates interest underfoot. An Avant Garde marble border in a deeper shade lends an air of sophistication. For a cohesive feel, Mayfair Marble flooring was continued into the lift.

Making an entrance was the order of the day when it came the choice of marble for the lobbies of three of the apartments. A white marble with dramatic veining, Liberty Marble with a honed finish, was chosen. It draws the eye and makes an eyecatching flooring.

As cloakrooms tend to be spaces used on occasions by guests, it is an excuse to go to town and impress. Pattern play came into its own here in each of the apartments with the choice of gorgeous Arabescato Corchia Marble in different formats. An elegant and classic marble with beautiful veining, honed tiles were used on the flooring, while reeded tiles create textural statement lower level walls. Integral skirting and bullnose dado top edges in Arabescato Corchia Marble provide the perfect finishing touches.

Naturally, marble was the ultimate choice in key ensuites and bathrooms where Taj Mahal Marble with a honed finish was used on the floor, walls, vanities, shelf units and shower floors, creating a cocooning spa-like feel. The mottled veining and soft grey tones of Taj Mahal Marble are perfect for evoking a soothing feel.

And Artisans of Devizes’ stone is the focal point of many of the sitting rooms with fire surrounds in Nero Marquina marble in a leathered finish - an atmospheric black marble with white veining - and openings in Black Honed Granite.
