The Project
Set within the rolling Northamptonshire landscape, this family home is a newly crafted family residence by architect Francis Terry, brought to life with the skilled craftsmanship of builders Kingerlee. The home beautifully combines historical architectural influences with the needs of contemporary living. Inspired by the 18th- and 19th-century English country house tradition, it incorporates traditional materials and forms while providing flexible spaces suited to modern family life. Designed to echo the character of local manor houses, the property is rich in timeless details — from its stone finishes to its balanced proportions.
The property stays true to Northamptonshire’s architectural heritage, showcasing local stonework and classical detailing. The façade pairs coursed ironstone with finely cut limestone ashlar from Bath, celebrating traditional craftsmanship and creating a striking visual presence. A grand entrance with Sloane limestone flooring inlaid with cabochons offers an impressive welcome, setting the tone for the residence’s elegant interior and exterior spaces. The kitchen, a central family space, features Amaya limestone, while the boot room is finished in Tetbury Terracotta, adding warmth and an earthy feel to this functional area.
Outside, expansive terraces extend the home’s living spaces, blending formal elements with natural charm. Trusloe limestone paving provides a durable, organic surface that complements the rural landscape. Landscape designer James Alexander-Sinclair has arranged the gardens to reflect this design, with planted areas close to the house and open lawns leading to views of surrounding fields and paddocks.
