At Artisans of Devizes, we love collaborating with designers, artists, creatives, artisans and experts in their field on everything design-orientated. That’s why we were thrilled to be invited along to interior designers Sims Hilditch’s design studio in Cold Ashton, South Gloucestershire, to explore autumn/winter themes and how the curated use of colour, texture and pattern can create the cosiest of interiors.
Designing beautiful, intelligently planned spaces for clients is what Sims Hilditch is all about. Their designers listen to their customers’ needs and wants in order to produce elegantly timeless interiors that feel lived in and loved. The design studio sits just five miles outside of the historic city of Bath and is lovingly and carefully decorated throughout with the perfect blend of practicality and flair. For the studio flooring, Sims Hilditch chose our Buscot limestone and Marlborough terracotta brick, harnessing their belief in true luxury being about embracing everyday living and allowing inspiration to flow from our surroundings.
With this in mind, we asked Sims Hilditch Design Director Louise Wicksteed to create three mood boards that encapsulate the autumn/winter look with design advice on how to achieve a similar effect at home…

Mood board 1: Natural Beauty
“To create a design scheme that will work for all seasons, including autumn, we recommend championing natural materials such as stone, wood and even marble. A stone floor and a marble worksurface, vanity or tile creates a base for a timeless space that can be updated seasonally through the soft furnishings. Pimlico limestone and Park Lane porcelain work brilliantly here.”

Mood Board 2: Textural Appeal
“Plaids, wools and wood bring a cosy, autumnal feel to an interior, particularly when the colourways reflect the reds, greens and browns clearly visible in the changing landscape. Sequel, a tactile, reclaimed stone tile, captures this natural shift in the seasons perfectly, bringing the outdoors in.” says Louise.
Mood Board 3: Playful Pattern
“A considered use of texture and pattern is the key to designing an interior that is full of layers and character. The rustic texture and unique shape of the Marlborough Arabesque Terracotta by Artisans of Devizes paired with the chunky herringbone carpet and fabrics of contrasting patterns in terracotta and green create an autumnal space that works in harmony with the countryside just beyond the back door.”
So, this season, embrace the textured, layered effect. Give rooms a cosy, cocooned feel with rich, earthy tones. Bring a sense of the outside, in, and complement an existing décor with stone, wood and marble tiles in timeless designs that blend longevity with luxury.
