The Project
This Grade II listed barn, one of the outbuildings of a 17th century Buckinghamshire country house, was renovated and converted into a home gym and leisure hub by design-led construction company Barr Build.
The swimming pool, which sits neatly between the main house and the barn, forms a focal point in the grounds. A key decision was the choice of stone to surround the pool, and for the path that leads to the barn changing room and the two patio seating areas at either end of the pool. Not only did the stone need to be durable, but it needed to blend with the surroundings and be elegant enough to elevate the outdoor space. Our Wychwood Etched Limestone, a hard limestone, was the perfect choice. Its pale hue has enough tonal variation to ensure it is a characterful stone, while introducing visual contrast against the black timbered exterior of the barn. The non-slip texture provides grip for practicality, while feeling cool and smooth underfoot.
