Designing the interior of a large country estate takes careful planning and consideration. For the owners of this impressive new-build project in the rambling Wiltshire hills, one of the key elements was the flooring. With its countryside location and two dogs, the flooring solutions needed to be hardwearing, durable and easy to clean – everything our limestone and marble tiles offer. They worked with Melissa Wyndham Design and Francis Terry Architects to help bring their vision to life.
Upon entering the property, visitors are welcomed into the warmth and natural beauty of our Portland and Amaya limestone. The long corridor opens out into a magnificently spacious entrance with grand sweeping staircase. The eye is instantly drawn underfoot to the contrasting limestone tiles, which are laid in a chequerboard pattern. Their tactile, velvet finish is classically elegant while the contrasting neutral and grey tiles are perfect for creating an authentic period look.
Portland limestone is continued through to the kitchen. The warm, mellow tones of this honed limestone work effortlessly with the white and grey cabinetry. Along with floor-to-ceiling cupboards with plenty of storage, the large open-plan space also features a generous island complete with statement extractor hood overhead. The limestone is classic in style while still bringing a contemporary feel to the room, perfect for modern lifestyles.
In the boot room, our Galway limestone in a seasoned finish is ultra-practical and ideal for muddy boots and pawprints. The warm grey flagstones have accents of green fossil and fern markings, which subtly complement the sage green cabinetry and painted wooden wall panelling.
For the bathroom, our Aliseo Marble Wicker Mosaic was the perfect choice to enhance the traditional sanitaryware and fittings. Featuring scattered veining and grey and cream variations on a milk white background, it brings elegance and character to this timeless space.
As well as ensuring that the interior flooring is robust and low-maintenance, the exterior also needed careful planning. Our ultra-hard Trusloe limestone was selected for the paths and extensive patio with its outdoor living furniture and breath-taking views. These seasoned slabs are ideal for creating a time-worn look, perfect for this country retreat.
