Project Showcase: Timeless Beauty

The Project

When designer, entrepreneur, humanitarian and author India Hicks and her husband David Flint Wood moved back to the UK after 20 years of living in the West Indies, it was the charming Cotswolds countryside that caught their eye. Taking down two 1970s farmworkers’ cottages and building their own home alongside large fields gave the couple, along with their five children, the chance to create their perfect English retreat.

Working with architect Andrew Nichols and construction company Barr Build, who specialises in heritage, high-end residential and commercial work, the couple decided they wanted something traditional – a cross between a Danish farmhouse and a Georgian rectory. The result is a stunning countryside home, full of symmetry and large doors and windows that make the most of the beautiful views throughout. The interior is clean and comfortable, decorated in a neutral palette with splashes of colour here and there. The white painted Shaker-style kitchen is enhanced by our Buscot seasoned limestone tiles for the floor. This is carried through to the dining area and boot room, which is one of India’s favourite rooms. “It doesn’t feel like you're in a cold frigid English country house,” she says. “I love that the hats are all on the wall, and that it has a bench covered with a fabric that my sister designed.”
