Meet The Team: Kevin Lamming9 June 2021
Experts in the field since 1989, Artisans of Devizes has grown over the last 30 years to become one of the UK’s leading stone and tile companies. Whilst our collections and designs are always evolving, the business itself remains true to its core values of quality, craftsmanship, integrity and collaboration.
Behind the stunning collections you see featured on our website, brochures and showrooms, are our team of stone experts, who are on hand to provide technical advice, inspiration and ideas for your project. A Project Consultant based at our flagship Devizes location, Kevin Lamming is always happy to share his expert advice on things to think about when planning your next design. So, who is he? Find out more about Kevin below…
How long have you worked with Artisans of Devizes? I have been a part of the team for six years and 10 months.
What do you enjoy most about working with Artisans of Devizes? I enjoy the freedom of being able to sell a product and service in my own style enabling me to help create beautiful homes that will last in history.
What are your top three favourite Artisans of Devizes products and why?
First up would be our Vellenoy Tumbled Limestone – this is my favourite product for its warm grey tones, charcoal fossils, its ability to fit into a crisp contemporary space or in a refined period property.
Vieux Bourgogne Limestone Artisan Antiqued™ Finish would be next – this works well in low ceilinged, country homes creating a comfortable and classical setting.
Last but not least would be our Aliseo Marble Honed Finish – this is a hugely versatile white marble, popular mostly in master ensuites. It’s available in a wide range of formats including slab, block, mosaic and tile form meaning if the client likes the material they have a wide range of feature patterns to choose from. It’s a “go-to” material as a base to start building on with colour, pattern, textures and shapes.
Do you have any Artisans of Devizes products at home? – I have a bespoke polished Avant-Garde marble desk which has been most handy during the time we were working from home, amongst other materials too.
What’s been your favourite project you’ve worked on and why? I wouldn’t be able to single out a lone project, but the clients that trust us as stone and tile experts and involve us in the design process always means the project ends up reaching its full potential and it’s hugely fulfilling to watch materialise and then complete. Clients that come back to us for their second home or during a second phase of a project, requesting our assistance and materials are always hugely appreciated and makes the project extremely special to us.
What’s your top piece of advice you give to a client who is interested in our stone and tiles? Natural stone is a variable product, it will change over time. Even when installing, you may have veins, fissures, colouring that would be impossible to sample or photograph. This will add character, interest and depth to the floor, bear with it until the final seal and finish has been applied. Also, allow sufficient lead time for your stone and/or tile. As with a lot of things, materials go through a logistical maze before they are stuck onto the floor. It is always worth ordering before you need the products or at least enquiring about lead-time if you are after something particularly special. It is also not a problem for us to hold the material until required (within reason of course) but proper planning means less stress for everyone involved.
What do you like to do when you’re not working? I enjoy exercise of sorts, travelling to see views, architecture, taking hikes and am fond of a game of chess.
Both our Devizes and Chelsea showrooms are now open by appointment or you can book a virtual consultation to have from the comfort of your own home. Learn more about our showrooms and book your appointment.
